Barrett 950

The SRESU use a Barrett 950 transceiver, for some of our Remote Activities. This 100 Watt High Frequency Transceiver designed specifically to satisfy the long distance communications requirements of organisations and individuals operating in remote and rugged environments.

Utilising the "free to air" nature of HF communications spectrum the Barrett transceiver can provide remote communications with no ongoing call charges unlike Mobile Phones.

In addition this Transceiver can be configured to work with Radio Telephone Services, providing direct telephone access from locations in Australia not covered by the Mobile Networks.  If your activity requires communications please talk to the SRESU.

Transceivers like this are commonly used to contact the Royal Flying Doctor Service, VKS737 (Australian National Four Wheel Drive Network) and other remote services.

The SRESU has a VKS737 subscription and can arrange other licences if required.

The Automatic Tuning Antenna works with this Transceiver to adjust to the frequency that the radio is operating.

This transceiver has been specifically programmed for the Scout Radio & Electronics Service Unit to support Scouting activities that require communication from remote or difficult locations.
